Blogging for Fun, not Profit

Updated: Jan 28

Who wants to be a full-time blogger?

Can I hear your response?

You?

Yes!

I want that, too.

My first question is: Is it possible right now? I'm not sure. It may be suitable for some people, but it isn't for me at the moment.

I still need my 9-to-5 job to cover my bills. How do I find time for blogging? It’s a juggling act. Life can get hectic with childcare and household chores, and finding time to blog can feel like an uphill battle.

So, what’s the secret? How can we make this work?

There isn't a perfect answer or an ideal plan. The true magic lies in believing in yourself and your ideas and pursuing them in a way that feels right for you. The blogging approach that brings you happiness is where the magic truly happens.

Is it a success guarantee? No. Like in any other aspect of life, success in blogging is not guaranteed.

What's the worst that can happen?

To fail to monetize the blog?

To waste time and money?

Time? Time spent in joy is not wasted time.

Money? If you view blogging as a hobby that brings you fulfillment, similar to other hobbies, it does come with some expenses. Take my husband, for instance—he enjoys fishing in his free time. Or my daughter, who loves painting. Regardless of the type of your hobby, you'll spend some money (like my husband on fishing gear, new baits, or like my daughter on painting supplies like canvases, brushes, and paints).

Time? Time spent in joy is undeniably valuable; it should never be considered wasted.

1. Blogging for a fun

All the magic can be summarized in one sentence: Blogging for fun! The real joy comes when you can hardly wait to open your laptop and share all those ideas and thoughts swirling around in your head—like when you're ironing your clothes, for example. 😊 It’s about finding happiness in the process, enjoying the act of creation, and having the freedom to express yourself.

In this case, blogging serves as a form of relaxation for you. If I were only focused on "money," thinking, "I must earn money from blogging," I would probably give up quickly. There’s a big difference in your approach to writing a blog when you genuinely enjoy what you write about when ideas slowly bubble up and are just waiting for the right moment to appear on "digital paper," compared to writing out of desperation to escape a financial situation or to get rich quickly.

Adopting the mindset of "FUN first, MONEY later" can greatly support your blogging journey.

2. Time. I Let it grow slowly...

Blogging has always been a long-term project for me, and I wanted to take my time with it rather than rush through the process. Before going online, I explored various topics that I would like to write about.

I focused on pure ideas, inspiration, and the joy of writing. It was fun and relaxing and allowed for creativity and daydreaming. I wanted this process to last as long as possible. Even though my time was limited, I didn’t want to rush through it. I enjoyed the feeling of letting ideas brew within me.

3. Choosing a blogging niche

The first thing that came to my mind was, what if I choose a niche that is too narrow? One day, I might wake up and find I have nothing to write about.😒

Since I don't consider myself an expert in any specific field but rather someone with a wide range of experiences, I decided it would be best to choose a broader niche.

That's when I settled on "Lifestyle." It felt like the perfect fit!

I enjoy writing about various lifestyle topics, such as travel, home decor, parenting, and career. I wanted to avoid the possibility of encountering "writer's block." On days when I don't feel inspired to write about travel but want to share parenting experiences instead, I can easily switch topics. I simply write about whatever inspires me that day.

Le voilà! There it is! A lifestyle blog answers my deepest fear... 😊

But yes, it's a broad niche with all those pros and cons. Given the many fields to explore and write about, finding suitable topics can sometimes feel overwhelming.

How do I find suitable topics?

The answer is: Time!

I spent a lot of time uncovering my writing strengths and identifying areas that need improvement.

Give yourself enough TIME to explore!

4. "Money on My Mind"

Keeping a 9-to-5 job offers me more than just financial security; it turns my creative time into a delightful escape. Having a dream about full-time blogging is undoubtedly good, but writing a blog without pressure is the best thing.

But yes, of course, it's hard to find a balance between two jobs and the other responsibilities that come along.

Choosing a profitable niche is another great thing, but choosing it ONLY because it's profitable could be a mistake. Bloggers need to love and be passionate about the topics they write about.

Passion and fun come first, and profit is a logical consequence of what you do.

But unfortunately, even if you're passionate about some topic, success is not guaranteed.

Many factors come into play, including willpower, persistence, and a willingness to learn new things and master your topics.

Time Will Tell

I will let you know if I become a full-time blogger.😊

Of course, I would love that. However, it's not my main priority. What truly matters to me is that I've enjoyed every step of the journey. I’ve dreamed about success, and this process has brought me beautiful moments—those priceless experiences that money can’t buy.

Success is not just about reaching the goal; it's about enjoying the journey along the way.

Blogging should be a fun and enjoyable experience! When you have a great time with it, your readers will feel that energy and it will help draw them in. There’s a good chance you'll find success along the way.

But even if things don’t go as planned, remember that the journey itself is what really counts. At least you had fun, right? In the end, time will tell how it all turns out!
